Dance with me, Germany, 2004

Synchronic narrative, 4-channel, variable dimensions, outdoor and indoor installation, DV, 16:9, Color, sound, Loop 13’04

“Dance with me, Germany” is a video installation composed of four synchronously running, 13-minute films. The beholder can move freely within the spacious rectangular zone delineated by the projection screens and choose the viewing sequence – just as he can channel surf on his own television set.

Related here in the style of the myths and the mood of thrillers and westerns from the 1960s and 1970s is the story of Sinan, a young Turk living in Germany. The point of departure for the work was the expulsion of the Turkish teenager Mehmet, which supplied headlines nationwide. The author Andreas Neumeister worked up his film script exploiting the vocabulary used in public discussions of the case.

By means of a projection vehicle, the installation is screened in public squares in Munich as a traveling film. This splintered story, staged in the suburbs, is thereby restored to outdoor space.
