Von Ohr zu Ohr-querdurch (From Ear to Ear – straight through), 2002
Audio installation, Infrared headphones, foam plastic brains, 5 transmitters, 5 CDs, computer with flash animation, polyethylene
Wearing helmets shaped like enormous human brains and equipped with headphones, visitors stroll through the hall the exhibition building.
This audio installation was developed in collaboration with the Center for Neurosciences in Mainz/Germany and a sound design company. Each transmitter emits synthetically generated sounds and voices through the headphones equipped with mini-receivers, and hence into the listener’s ears. Via this special technique, listeners have the impression of hearing noises in their own head, i.e., between or behind their ears. In keeping with the discoveries of neurology, moreover, specific regions of the brain, and the emotions sited there, are stimulated-in a kind of reversal of an electrocardiogramm. Visitors thereby enter the emotional spaces residing within themeselves.
